  • I have been a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since 1988.
  • I have served congregations in Green Bay, Wisconsin (1999-2008); Easton, Pennsylvania (1998-1999); Whitehall, Pennsylvania (1994-1998); and Hawley, Pennsylvania (1988-1994).
  • I am a past president of NAOMI (North Central Congregations Organized to Make an Impact), an association of eight Wausau area congregations working for social justice.
  • I was the founding president of JOSHUA (Justice Organization Sharing Hope and United for Action), an association of Green Bay congregations working for social justice.
  • I have been married to Nan for 34 years.  We have three adult sons:  Erick, Gary, and Adam.
  • I have had an interest in genealogy since I was a teenager.  I now have nearly 9,000 names in my database.
  • I attempt to raise and breed angelfish with almost no success.
  • I have an enduring interest in government and politics.  I have most admired Hubert Humphrey and Jimmy Carter.  Elective politics has not been my forte, however.  I was defeated in attempts to win election to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1972, 1974, and 1996.
  • I am a graduate of Eau Claire Memorial High School (1969); the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire (B.A. 1986); and Wartburg Theological Seminary (M. Div. 1988).
  • Prior to ordination, I was a laborer at Uniroyal in Eau Claire (1970-1980) and Business Manager/Mission Coordinator at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire (1980-1984).
